"Do you ever go into a fight thinking 'There's no point giving my best, I'll get another chance later?' We only ever get one shot, Marlin. Life is one shot! Making it count is all that matters!" - Skold Greypelt, Lone Wolves - Graphic Novel, Dan Abnett & Karl Richardson

[ENG] The Shadow

‘This is the only pic that we take my lord Inquisitor' the guardsman in front of the console was tense, the security system didn't took a good image.

Of course it was a miracle of the God-Emperor that the system was still operating, the only camera that was less damaged had a lot of problems with its connection system. A Tech-priest was needed for making some sustainable repair. A simple guardsmen in charge of vox communications was too neophyte for this technology.
The Lord Inquisitor say nothing and the silence was too uncomfortable for the soldier.
'One... of the daemons that Space Wolves help us to destroy?' The guardsman voice was full of fear but he felt that he needed to say something. The Lord Inquisitor looked at him but after a few seconds he returned his eyes in direction to the monitor. After more uncomfortable minutes, the Lord Inquisitor finally speak. 'Thank you very much soldier, you had helped a lot to the cause of the Inquisition, return with your Commissar'.
The guardsman sighed very slowly, trying it to be unnoted.
I'm still alive, thought. When the Commissar sent him with the Lord Inquisitor he waited for the worst. He had survived the battle just for a few inches, a mortar exploded near to him but not enough to kill him, he thought that he had luck. Then, when through the vox he heard that the Space Wolves were landing in the planet, he thought that again. Too much luck for one day, said his comrade.
And now, he was still alive. He thought that maybe could be a good day for some gambling but before he could started to think of some tricks for the cards, a single shot blew his head.

The Lord Inquisitor sheathed his pistol. Nothing could know that he was chasing the wolf.
That stupid soldier, he thought.
'...a daemon?' whispered to his self. No, that was not a daemon, is some kind of abomination of those barbarians and he was going to research until he could find the true and after that, he would take the Emperor's Justice to those beasts.
He get out of the room and started to walk through one of the corridors of the abandoned bunker. While he was thinking of how he could find the secret of the Space Wolves, he didn't notice that the lights over the corridor were turning off, one by one. He only noticed something when the hall was completely dark.
Something is wrong here, thought immediately. He felt fear and tried to unsheathe his pistol but a blue light emerged in just an instant.

The headless body of the Lord Inquisitor was found next to the body of the guardsmen, there was no signs of something that could lead to any clue about its murder. The Commissar was too nervous about it so the final decision was to kill the patrol and burn all the bodies, guardsmen, soldiers and the lord Inquisitor. After that, all the involved were shot.
Two weeks later, the Commissar was found death near a pit. His face reflected a grimace of terror.
